Battle of the Bands
The University of Auckland's Battle of the Bands competition encourages you, your friends, your tutors, or even your professors to churn out some cool tunes and compete for some cool prizes.

Battle of the Bands 2012 took place on Thursday 22 March at Shadows.
The competing bands were:
- Two Dollar Beanie
- The identity slip
- Lola and the Dobros
- Residents
- Troubled Frank
- TOTALED
Thank you again to all of the top notch bands that submitted entries, and please enter to compete again next time!

Bands were chosen based on:
- The quality or potential quality of their overall sound.
- How well they play together as a band.
- Potential appeal to the audience.
- All bands will represent a wide array of musical genres
- All finalists will compete live at Shadows in 10-12 minute sets.
- Each performance must be dominated with original song material. At the very least, each band must have one original song.
- On the night of the performance, each participating band will have full use of a professional backline, including a full 5-piece drum kit with cymbals, 2 full guitar stacks, and 1 bass stack, supplied by MusicWorks. There will also be professional sound engineers for your audio needs.
Each band is judged on four aspects of their performance:

| Audience appeal | 10 points |
| Star power / stage presence | 10 points |
The first-place band won $700 worth of vouchers from MusicWorks.
The runner-up won $300 worth of vouchers from MusicWorks and some cool prizes from Real Groovy.
