Message from Candy Vong

If you’re an Asian student who is more comfortable expressing yourself in your first language, you can speak to our Asian counsellor Candy Vong, who speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese.

“I am an experienced Asian counsellor in the counselling team and speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

“I am able to offer personal, confidential and professional counselling enriched by an awareness of Asian culture and the experience of living overseas. I hold a masters degree in Counselling from The University of Auckland and a Bachelor of Social Work from Taiwan University.

“I emigrated from Macau in 1993 with a background of growing up in Macau and living in Taiwan for five years. I have travelled to most parts of China and some Asian countries. As a result, I have experienced homesickness and the process of immigration, transition and adaptation. This has enhanced my understanding of your experience.

“I am here to provide support and to help you understand yourself, gain insight and develop essential coping skills that will enable you to cope better with your studies and enjoy your study life.”

Feedback from students

  • "I have found the counselling experience to be very rewarding and insightful."
  • "I wish that I had come earlier, before my problem became so serious."
  • "I feel much more comfortable talking about my personal issues in my first language."
