NetID and password


Your NetID and password are needed to access the University's electronic environment, which includes Student Services Online, CECIL, EC Mail, Library databases, and the internet.

NetID and password

To access to the University's electronic environment, you must log in with your username and password.

  • Username
    This is your NetID (also known as your "UPI").
  • Password
    This is your University of Auckland password.

Your NetID and password identify you to the computing systems when you log in. This is called authentication. If you are fully enrolled when you log in, your access to The University of Auckland electronic environment is authorised.

Your NetID and password gives access to:

  • Student Services Online
  • CECIL
  • Computer laboratories
  • Copy and Print Service
  • EC Mail
  • Library resources
  • Internet

Getting your NetID and password

If you are a new student, you will have been told what your NetID and password are in your "Acceptance of Application Letter".

If you do not have these details, you can do the following:

  1. Swipe your Student ID card at one of the Copy and Print Service stations which are located throughout the University. Once you swipe your Student ID card, your NetID (eg, jbon007) will be displayed on the monitor.
  2. Click on the print job displayed as “Your new random password” inside the window of the monitor and click on the “Print” button. Your password will be on the printed sheet.

  • Kate Edger Information Commons
  • Grafton Information Commons
  • Epsom Information Commons
  • Tāmaki Library and Information Commons
  • Libraries
  • Faculty computing laboratories

Alternatively, you can get your password from one of the IC Helpdesks either at the City, Grafton, Epsom or Tāmaki campuses. You must provide your Student ID card, passport or driver’s license.

Protect your password
  • Always protect your password, and keep it safe and private. Never disclose your password to anyone and do not write it down.
  • Your password is used to authenticate and authorise you for use of services. It is your responsibility.
  • Remember, at no time will any University representative ask you for your password.

Changing your password

You can change your password online by going to www.ec.auckland.ac.nz/password/change.

Your new password must be:

  • Eight characters long.
  • Easy for you to remember.
  • Hard for anyone else to guess.

The best passwords are a mix of letters, numbers, and punctuation characters. Use all three when creating your new password.

Important
Once you receive your new password, you must change it the first time you log in. It may take up to 20 minutes for the system to process the new password.

Forgotten passwords

If you have forgotten your password, you can get it reset.

Please visit the IC Helpdesk at Kate Edger Information Commons, Grafton Information Commons, Epsom Information Commons in the Sylvia Ashton-Warner Library or Tāmaki Library and Information Commons. Take your Student ID card, passport or drivers license.

You can also have your password reset at the Student Information Centre.

If you are a remote or distance student, please send the following information to onelogon@auckland.ac.nz:

  1. Full name
  2. NetID (eg, jbon007)
  3. Student ID Number
  4. Date of birth
  5. Home address
  6. Current course(s) you are enrolled in (or programme of study)
