Employer presentations and seminars are information sessions given by employers on campus.
Employers may provide specific information for students about:
- their company
- opportunities for employment
- details about their recruitment programmes
- application procedures
- closing dates.
Presentations usually last an hour and there is usually an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the hour. Often a presenter is a past graduate who will speak from experience, with insights into the type of work you are likely to be engaged in as a new employee. Some employers provide food and drink after their presentation, and this is an additional opportunity to mix and mingle with representatives from that company.
How to prepare for an employer presentation
- Do some research on the companies such as size, organisation, locations, their products, and their standing in the industry.
- Prepare a brief (30 second) introductory speech about yourself, which you can use when you approach the employer.
- Include your name, course of study, stage/year, career interests, and prepare some questions you would like to ask the employer.
Remember, this is your opportunity to find out as much as possible about this employer and their industry.
