UniGuides

When you’re new to University, it's hard figuring out where to go or how to get help. Our UniGuide service helps make your first weeks on campus easier by giving you someone who knows their way around.

What is a UniGuide?

A UniGuide is a student at the University who has volunteered to help new students find their way around.

In 2011, we had almost 300 UniGuides helping almost 1,900 first-year students get around campus.

It’s a free service and we have UniGuides on all our campuses. These are current students who study at the same faculty as you, which means you’ll already have a familiar face to see around.

Having a UniGuide helps you settle into University life quickly and gives you more confidence to tackle any academic and personal challenges that come with your first year at University.

How do I get a UniGuide?

To sign up for a UniGuide, you need to fill out this form to Get a UniGuide.

Once you've signed up for a UniGuide, we'll match you up with a UniGuide and a small group of others from the same faculty as you. You'll meet up with your group during Orientation so that you can wander around campus.

After Orientation, you can contact your UniGuide whenever you have a question that you need to ask and they'll answer it for you or help you find the answer.

Want to become a UniGuide?

We are always looking out for future UniGuides.

The UniGuides Programme gives you a chance to develop your leadership, mentoring and networking skills — which will look great on your CV.

When you’ve done the training, you’ll get a group of no more than 15 first-year students all from the same faculty as you.

You’ll become an important person in helping your group settle in, so you’ll need to be available for 10-15 hours for the first six weeks of a semester.

If you want to help welcome new students to the University, apply now!
