Myra and Eric McCormick Scholarship in History

Value of Award:$10,000 per annum
No. of awards:One per year.
Tenure:The Scholarship shall be awarded for one year in the first instance, but provided Senate is satisfied with the progress of the student, it will be renewed for a second year, and, if required, for part or all of a third year.


Funds for this Scholarship derive from the estate of the late Dr E H McCormick who established a close and mutually valued connection with the Department of History.

The holder of the Scholarship shall be a full-time candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Auckland undertaking a topic in the history of New Zealand.

NOTE: This Scholarship may not be available for a particular year. Applicants are advised to enquire of the Scholarships Office one or two months before the deadline in each case.

General Information:

How do students apply?
Application of the Scholarship in the form of a letter shall be made to the Scholarships Office, no later than 28 February 2014 December in the year of the award.

Decision makers
The Scholarship shall be awarded by the Council of The University of Auckland on the recommendation of a selection committee including the Head of the Department of History and two other members of that Department.


How and when do students learn of the decision?


What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Payment may be suspended and the Scholarship may be cancelled if Council receives an unfavourable report on the progress of the Scholar.


Additional Information
  • Subject to the approval of the Council, the holder may simultaneously hold other scholarships provided that the regulations of such scholarships so permit.
  • The Council may vary the conditions of the Scholarship from time to time on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of History, but so that there is no departure from the main purpose.
