Overview

The Doctor of Fine Arts (DocFA) is the highest-level university qualification in fine arts at The University of Auckland that is predominantly founded on studio-based practice. You are required to develop a formal, systematic exposition of a substantial piece of original creative work, founded on a chosen research question. This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the field of contemporary art and/or design.

The results of your practice-based research are predominantly presented through exhibitions, performances and/or other creative works. The final presentation is supported by a written submission.

You will supervised by a committed team of professionally active, internationally recognised staff from within Elam and if appropriate, other schools/faculties within The University of Auckland. Please note that only in exceptional circumstances is the DocFA offered extramurally.
