Categories and prizes
The categories are Poster Presentation, Oral Presentation, and Live and Multimedia Performance. Additionally there are special category prizes available.
Each entry must be accompanied by a research abstract. The abstract will be published in the official Exposure programme.
Poster Presentation
Posters must be A1 size. Successful posters strike a balance between academic content, visualisation of research and appeal to a broad audience. The design of the poster must be the student’s own work.
Some faculties, such as Engineering, Medical and Health Sciences and Science, will hold faculty pre-competitions which are a pre-cursor to entry into Exposure. (Check with your Head of Department.)
Oral Presentation
Oral Presentations are a 15-minute talk accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation of the research. It will be delivered to an audience and judging panel and will be followed by five minutes of questions.
Some faculties, such as Engineering and Medical and Health Sciences, will hold faculty pre-competitions which are a pre-cursor to entry into Exposure. (Check with your Head of Department.)
Live and Multimedia Performance
Live and Multimedia Performance entrants will be given 20 minutes in which to present their creative component work, including an explanation of their research. The presentation will be delivered to an audience and judging panel and will be followed by five minutes of questions. Multimedia presentations must encompass a media entry. Media entries could be an interactive artwork, a film or short movie, an interactive model (eg, an architectural model), or even a tool (eg, a software tool or programme).
Please note that interactivity is key. If your performance focuses around an oral presentation to PowerPoint then you are encouraged to enter the Oral Presentation category rather than multimedia. Similarly, if your presentation focuses on a poster, you are encouraged to enter the Poster category.
Cash prizes
The winner of each category receives $2500, and the runners up also receive cash prizes. If fewer than six entries are received in a category, the cash prizes may not be awarded.
Exposure special prizes
Exposure recognises excellence in the positive outcomes of research in the community and the environment.
Three special prizes will be awarded this year, to students whose research contributes to the dialogue on:
- environmental sustainability
- human rights
- social development.
