Carol Brown is an internationally established performer, choreographer and teacher. Her work evolves through collaborations with other artists, in particular architects, composers and designers. Recent works include the theatre performance Seed (Subcircle, Philadelphia) the performance installation Mnemosyne (Prague Quadrenniale of Performance Design and Space) and the interactive dance Revolve (The Body Festival Christchurch). Formerly choreographer in residence at the Place Theatre London and Reader in Dance at Roehampton University Carol Brown’s works have toured throughout the world and she has received numerous awards including a Jerwood, a NESTA Dream Time and the Ludwig Forum International Prize for Innovation. Carol returned to New Zealand in 2009 to take up a post as Senior Lecturer in Dance Studies at the University of Auckland. Carol continues to be involved in international collaborations through M:A:P Movement Architecture Performance a research collaboration with architect and performance designer Dorita Hannah and sound artist Russell Scoones. M:A:P create site-responsive works that interweave dance, sound, design and architecture to create extraordinary journeys in urban settings. Projects such as Her Topia (Athens, 2005) and Tongues of Stone (Perth Dancing City 2009-11) explore new ways of telling stories about cities and the people who inhabit them by paying attention to the hidden, the neglected and the lost.
