8 May 2012

4 - 5pm

Venue: Ground Floor Seminar Room (G010), UniServices House, 70 Symonds Street, Auckland

A Bioengineering research seminar by Dr Wayne Patrick, Institute of Natural Sciences, Massey University (Albany)

Dr Patrick's laboratory group focuses on understanding the evolutionary processes that give rise to novel protein folds and functions. His group also use their evolutionary insights to engineer enzymes with new and improved properties.

Dr Patrick will present data from Marsden-funded research to explore the role of non-homologous (‘illegitimate’) recombination in the evolution of new folds.

He will also describe his group's attempts to engineer and commercialise improved versions of the enzyme, DNA ligase.
