SIMON FERNEYHOUGH

Simon is a graduate of The University of Auckland School of Architecture and Planning who has turned his attention to emerging technologies that support management and improvement of the built environment. He has worked in cities around the Asia Pacific region; from the sophisticated environment of the Hong Kong telecommunications industry to the burgeoning renewable energy markets of Southeast Asia.

The Visual City is a concept of New Zealand innovation catalyst Nextspace. Converging technologies today facilitate the building and distribution of complex virtual or ‘visual’ city models. Once data about the built and natural environment is ingested it can be passed to computer systems for simulation and visualisation. Nextspace develop software to curate this data and present it through a variety of visual metaphors. The applications for this technology are wide-ranging and offer potential benefits to many fields including; urban design, infrastructure planning, emergency management, policy and resource management.
