12pm - 1pm
Venue: Engineering Building, Room 3405, 20 Symonds Street, Auckland
Host: New Zealand Asia Institute

Presenter: Dr Hugh Byrd (The University of Auckland School of Architecture and Planning)
Since independence, Malaysia’s economic growth was fuelled by its oil and gas reserves. As these resources deplete and their territorial ownership is contested, future economic growth is uncertain.
This presentation is based on a trilogy of books authored by Hugh over the last 4 years: Energy and Ecology: A view of Malaysia beyond 2020, Energy and Building Control Systems in the Tropics and Towards a Sustainable Built Environment in Malaysia.
Hugh puts forward a view of how the industrialised society may have to adapt in order to survive.
