Student learning support

The Centre for Academic Development is a central service unit with an institutional mandate to support and enhance teaching, learning, and research activities.

The Centre for Academic Development provides support to all staff and students at The University of Auckland in the areas of innovation in teaching and learning (with a focus on the emergence of new technologies), opportunities for professional development, student learning instruction and support via Tā te Ākonga (Student Learning), workshops aimed at developing new IT literacy skills, and the development of teaching resources using television, multimedia and web technologies.

The four divisions of The Centre for Academic Development (CAD) are:

Tā te Ākonga (Student Learning)
Student Learning provides learning instruction and support to ensure that students of the University are performing at their best in their studies.

Academic Practice Group (APG)
The Academic Practice Group is organised to provide support and development programmes which cohere with the policies and priorities of the University of Auckland, research, and the Treaty of Waitangi. It adds value across the University by improving performance, and boosting innovation and organisational learning.

Elearning Group
The Elearning Group provides a centralised service to the University community offering consultation, design, and development of digital learning resources.

Photography and Television Group
The Photography and Television Group provides a full range of professional photographic and television production services in support of teaching, research, and public relations.

English language support is provided to students in the following ways:

Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment (DELNA)
Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment (DELNA) is an assessment/diagnostic procedure which all first-year students are required to complete. It is designed to identify students' strengths and weaknesses in academic English and then guide them to the most appropriate form of language enrichment at the University.

English Language Self-Access Centre (ELSAC)
English Language Self-Access Centre (ELSAC) provides students with resources and space to work on their English language skills at their own time and pace.
