Summer Research Scholarships 2012-2013

We have 400 scholarships for summer research students who have completed at least two years of their undergraduate degree. Applications are to be submitted to faculty offices by their advertised deadlines.

• The purpose of Summer Research Scholarships is to give University students — normally in their final or penultimate undergraduate year — experience in research, to encourage them to pursue postgraduate study.
• Students are expected to conduct a research project of approximately 10 weeks duration (400 hours) under the supervision of an academic staff member. The value of each scholarship is $5,000.
• The Summer Research Scholarships programme has become a vital component of the University’s research and postgraduate programme. It provides excellent value for money and meets multiple objectives for the students, their supervisors, research programmes, and faculties. Previous faculty reports on the programme have been unanimously supportive and enthusiastic about the programme’s worth.
• This year The University of Auckland is investing $2m to fund 400 Summer Research Scholarships. This is a unique opportunity to encourage students with potential to succeed in postgraduate research programmes to consider this option.
