Credit and grades
MIT students who apply for admission to The University of Auckland may be granted appropriate credit towards a University degree or other qualification on the basis of work successfully completed in an MIT programme. In some cases MIT grades may be considered for recognition.
To be awarded an undergraduate degree from the University, a transfer student must complete at least 120 points at the University. The maximum credit that a transfer student can be awarded in a 360 point qualification is therefore 240 points. You will need to take Stage III (Level 7) courses at the University to complete a University degree.
The award of credit is based on the principle that you have covered the same or similar content and acquired the same or similar skills and understanding in an MIT course as students who have taken a similar course at the University.
The University has determined which MIT courses are equivalent to University courses and if you have successfully completed such a course you will be given credit for the equivalent University course. This is called specified credit (see below). Sometimes a course will provide you with essential content and skills but does not have an exact equivalent at the University. You may be given unspecified credit for such courses.
Credit may be for a named course in the University qualification where MIT and University courses are regarded as equivalent. Approved equivalences are shown in the entry for the qualification.
In other cases, courses at MIT will be recognised for unspecified credit. This means that the stage and number of points credited for the course will be specified but an equivalent course will not be specified.
- Normally credit will be granted only for Stage I and Stage II (level 5 and 6) courses.
- Credit will not be available for courses that have been passed with a restricted or conceded pass.
- Credit may be refused for courses passed more than five years previously.
In some cases you may be required to reach a certain grade in your MIT course for credit to be awarded. Your MIT grades will not appear on your University transcript although students may, if they have a special reason, apply for their grades to be considered for recognition.
