Apply for Study Abroad

Entry requirements

As a general guide, you should have completed at least one year of college or university before applying for a Study Abroad place at The University of Auckland. You must also have a better-than-average academic record, particularly in your major subject and in your most recent academic year of study.

The University of Auckland may require students whose first language is not English to demonstrate their proficiency in English language. Acceptable measures include an overall band score of 6.0 in IELTS with no band less than 5.5, or 550 (213); or in TOEFL with a TWE score of no less than 4.5. Where English is the medium of instruction at a student's home university, this may be accepted as evidence of adequate English language proficiency.

Acceptance onto the Study Abroad programme does not guarantee entry into specific courses (papers). You will receive a Course Selection form and enrolment instructions with your official Offer of Admission.

Tuition fees

Study Abroad students pay a single flat fee, which covers tuition fees for a full-time course of study. This also covers the access to Student Services, the International Orientation programme and membership of the University of Auckland Students Association (AUSA).

If you withdraw from the programme after having paid your fees, a withdrawal fee of NZ$1,000 is charged. No refund is payable if you withdraw after the ‘alteration to enrolment period’. This period is the first two weeks of the semester.

2010 Study Abroad semester tuition and fees: NZ$11,350 (per semester).

For more information, see Study Abroad fees.
