What is the New Zealand Development Scholarship (NZDS) - Public Category?

The New Zealand Development Scholarship - Public Category is funded by the New Zealand Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It is available for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

What does the NZDS Public Category cover?

1. The scholar's tuition fee at the University of Auckland.
2. The scholar's airfare from his or her home country to Auckland, New Zealand.
3. Basic cost of living in Auckland for the scholar and his or her dependants (spouse and children).
4. Health and medical insurance in New Zealand for the scholar and his or her dependants.
5. Primary and secondary education (tuition fees only) for the scholar's dependent children in Auckland, New Zealand.
6. Airfares for the scholar and his or her dependants from Auckland, New Zealand, to the scholar's home country at the conclusion of his or her course of study.

Note: The scholar is responsible for his or her dependants' airfares to Auckland, New Zealand.

Who is eligible?

This scholarship is available for students intending to study undergraduate or postgraduate programmes.

In order to be considered for an NZDS Public category, a candidate must submit his or her application through his or her home nominating authority; typically the Ministry or Department of Education in the applicant's home country. The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade seeks placements and decides which institution, polytechnic or university the applicant may study at in New Zealand.
