The aim of the Information Commons is to create, provide and maintain a positive and productive learning environment for students.
Here are some of the key Rules and Directions students should be aware of:
-
Research and learning focus:
Library and information commons spaces and facilities are provided for the educational purposes of the University and specifically for academic research study and support, not for business, personal or recreational use such as gaming or file-sharing. -
Discussion and quiet areas:
The information commons facilities and some libraries have areas that are designated for discussion and group study. All library open spaces and some areas in information commons facilities are designated as quiet study areas where group work, conversation and the audible use of noise generating equipment including cell phones is not permitted. -
Reservation of study desks and computers:
Study desks and computers in libraries and information commons may not be reserved. This includes leaving personal belongings or signs. In information commons facilities, students will automatically be logged off computers after 15 minutes of inactivity. -
Personal belongings:
Personal belongings are the responsibility of the owner. If left unattended at study desks or computers or elsewhere in the facilities for more than 15 minutes, they may be removed. Only Authorised Persons may remove personal belongings and The University of Auckland is not responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings that are left unattended or removed.
It is important that you are aware of these Rules and Directions as any infringement may lead to the suspension of your use of the Library and Information Commons computers, services and study spaces for such period as the University Librarian sees fit.
