Wireless network

Find answers to common questions about the wireless network.

I want to access the internet on my laptop. Is this possible?

Yes, you can connect to the Internet/University of Auckland network from your laptop if your laptop is enabled for wireless access. For more information, see Wireless network.

I cannot connect - the wireless connection bars are not displaying on the laptop

If the wireless connection bars don’t display, then your wireless connection is most likely turned off.

If you are using a laptop from the Information Commons or Library, the wireless connection switch is located on the right-side of the laptop. If you can see red, then your wireless connection is turned off. Slide the switch forward to turn on the wireless connection.

For other models, if you do not know the location of your wireless connection switch – check the operation manual. Alternatively, a Google search of the make and model may also prove helpful.

How do I access the files from the IC drive on my own laptop?

You need to use the EC AFS web interface to access these files from your personal laptop. For more information and instructions, see EC - AFS (Student File Storage).
