Trudie McNaughton has been the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Equity) at the University of Auckland and a member of the University’s Senior Leadership Team since 2007. Trudie advises the Vice-Chancellor and Council on fulfilling the University’s commitment to equity in employment and education. A graduate of the University of Auckland, Trudie’s work includes access and success for Māori; Pacific; those with family and caring responsibilities, people with disabilities; women, men, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse and intersex people (LGBTI); and people from refugee and from low socio-economic backgrounds.
Trudie has worked in equity since the late 1980s, including as the Chief Executive of the New Zealand Equal Employment Opportunities Trust (1992-2003). There, she led research and communications projects on issues including cultural and ethnic diversity, disability, age, gender, family and carer responsibilities, and work-life balance. Trudie is a past board member of the National Research Centre for Growth and Development (later Gravida), the Career Services Board, National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women, Human Rights Review Tribunal, and the Ministerial Advisory Group on Immigration.
