APRU Presidents’ Annual Meeting 2017
The University’s Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Engagement) recently attended the Annual Meeting of the APRU network in Sydney, hosted by the University of New South Wales.
This year’s agenda delivered on its theme – 'The future of the Pacific and its Societies’, with presentations on the changing ocean, climate change, social equity and disasters and displacements.
The Rt Hon Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and most recently Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, gave the keynote speech on UN Sustainable Development goals and the Pacific.
Following this, the University of Auckland’s Associate Professor Damon Salesa participated in a panel on sustainability and research universities in the Asia-Pacific.During the Annual Meeting, the network’s refreshed vision and brand was launched, reflecting a shift in focus towards a more policy and action-based approach, repositioning the network as the “voice of knowledge and innovation in the Asia-Pacific".
