Feed the hungry in Canterbury

Help 0800 Hungry Ministries Trust fight hunger in Christchurch.

Volunteering Canterbury aims to see people and communities prospering through volunteering, by matching willing volunteers with local not-for-profit community groups. Support from volunteers enables these groups to carry out their crucial work in the community. Whether you want to volunteer as an individual or within a group, they can connect you with the right people and help you make a difference!

One such organisation is 0800 Hungry, Canterbury’s largest food bank. This group is committed to locating and recovering food and grocery items that would otherwise be dumped, ploughed in, left to rot, or fed to livestock due to oversupply. Volunteers with 0800 Hungry package this excess food into food parcels, and then deliver these packages back into the community where it is needed most. Food parcels like these make a real difference to people’s everyday life, and even more so in our current economic climate.
