Key facts
Career: Analyst
Programme: Bachelor of Commerce, Master of Property
Subjects: Finance, Economics and Property
Try to think of a business with no property whatsoever, it doesn’t exist. If you think about that, you realise how important property is, how much it affects us all. That’s what drives me.
Since the end of 2016, Vernon has combined his studies with a job at Colliers International, where his boss is Property alumnus Chris Farhi. Putting his studies into practice, he is involved in analysing issues and solving problems for occupiers of commercial property.
While he enjoys this work and the real world experience it gives him, Vernon has decided on social housing as the subject of his masters dissertation, which he will undertake in 2018.
Having worked for a month at Housing New Zealand, he sees an urgent need to deliver efficient outcomes in the social housing industry.
“I’ve been lucky enough to always have a roof over my head, and I would like to help those who struggle to find adequate accommodation, in any way I can”.
Vernon says that the Property programmes are taught by a great mix of academics and industry professionals. His time at the Business School has also been enhanced by the many extra-curricular opportunities available to students: he was co-president of the Investment Club for a year, and was chosen to compete at case competitions in LA two years running.
