Key facts

Career: Marketing and management
Programme: Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws

“I gained great insight into the different areas of business in the first year of my BCom, and discovered that I was particularly interested in marketing and management. The range of courses on offer is fantastic, and in the classes with relatively low class numbers, there were lots of opportunities for debate and discussion, which I loved.”

Linda also enjoyed the dynamic environment and community spirit of the Business School. She was on the executive of Velocity (then Spark) for two years and later interned at a startup communications company called Anthem. She was co-president of MIND (Marketing, Innovation, Networking and Design), the Business School’s marketing club, and is also a mentor of intermediate students in her own community.

Life at Bloomberg was anything but dull for Linda. “I was exposed to excellent training and learned a lot doing something different every day. I spent quite a few hours shadowing the sales team and together with another intern I developed a marketing strategy to increase uptake of the company’s mobile app.”

The company was obviously as pleased with Linda as she was to be there – she has a graduate offer rotating between the London and Sydney offices. She’s excited about this opportunity to gain international experience, but says her ultimate goal is to return to a career in New Zealand, hopefully in management and law. “I have gained so much from my studies at the University of Auckland… I want to give something back to New Zealand society.”
