Architecture international mentors 2020
Meet our international mentors from the School of Architecture and Planning.
Hi, my name is Sunjoo. I am currently studying my first year of Master of Architecture (Professional).
I jumped into this degree with a high school knowledge about architecture, absolutely blind to what I was going to have to go through. And in the three years of study, I began to enjoy this bittersweet journey more and more. I want to finish my masters at the University of Auckland and continue exploring the architecture in New Zealand.
I look forward to being your mentor, to help you settle down in this new environment and allowing your creativity to spark. I know how hard it is to get used to a new city, having come from the rural side of New Zealand. I am excited to try to make your experience the best it can be.
As your mentor, I will arrange tutorial sessions, social events throughout the year making opportunities for you to connect with your peers, and hopefully someone you can talk to and seek help from more than just your academic issues.
Feel free to email me with any comments or questions!

Hello, my name is Angelica Ramos. I am currently in my last year of the Master of Architecture (Professional) and Heritage Conservation programme here at the University of Auckland. My goal is to get licensed and eventually specialize in heritage conservation.
As an international student, I am aware of the difficulties that come with being in a new environment which can affect your academic and personal life. Although it takes time to adjust, I’m sure that over time you will be able to flourish.
This year’s mentor group aims to help you adjust by hosting events, trips, and tutorials with other international students at CAI. We aim to help you boost your performance and ease your transition during your time here.
Individually, I am here as your mentor to provide you with information about resources and opportunities available to you during your time at the University. I can also point you in the direction of good restaurants around the city!
I love to draw and paint. I’d like to discuss new artists/materials/ or drawing techniques with you! I sometimes attend drawing sessions in the city so you can tag along if you’re interested! I am excited to meet you, and I hope you will have a great time here at the University of Auckland!

I am Chenhao Zhou. I am in my thesis year of architectural study, the second year of my Master of Architecture (Professional).
I found my interest in architecture when I was learning drawing as a kid. The diverse senses due to different spatial combinations and materiality was intriguing to me. During my years of study, I have found that architecture is an interdisciplinary and complicated subject. Because of this, I would like to participate in a small-scale but innovative architectural firm and work with intelligent and hardworking people.
I had been here for five years as an international student and witnessed the development of support of this kind for international students. I was an international mentor last year. This year, I would like to help the new students and support returning students based on our experiences, offer field trips and collaborative learning workshops to explore various abilities as well as help with job seeking.
