Dance international mentor
Meet our international mentor for Dance at the University of Auckland.
As a Dance Studies mentor, I arrange dance workshops. You may become a dance teacher for other students, or you'll have a chance to dance freely.
Hi guys! My name is Li Wang. I finished my Master of Dance Studies at the University of Auckland, and I am currently a PhD candidate in the Dance Studies Programme.
I was born in China and I’m an international student in New Zealand. I used to study in the UK. These study experiences with an ‘international’ identity make me deeply understand the possible difficulties that international students may undergo, which help me to stand beside other students who are far away from home and study overseas.
My master’s research focused on dance teachers’ intercultural sensitivity while teaching international students for an inclusive classroom in tertiary institutions. My PhD keeps going in the direction of intercultural dance education, especially in the intercultural dance supervision process.
This theoretical knowledge provides me with further empathy from both international students and teachers’ perspectives, being an ‘insider’ as well as an ‘outsider’.
In future, I want to be a dance education researcher to help more students to feel the sense of belonging in a cross-cultural setting.
As a Dance Studies mentor, I arrange dance workshops. You may become a dance teacher for other students, or you will have a chance to dance freely. There are many student activities to meet friends beyond dance as a subject, such as a faculty afternoon trip and a music concert.
I also hold drop-in sessions for you to ask questions related to your assignments, interests, problems and so on.
Please regard me as your older sister!
I am looking forward to seeing and talking with you!
