International mentor Yunlong (Chris) Wang

Hi! My name is Yunlong Wang, but my friends usually call me Chris. I am currently in my third year studying a Bachelor of Urban Planning (Honours).

Growing up I was always interested in urban planning/design degree ever since I was a kid. Before I moved to Auckland, I lived in Beijing, Xi'an, Zhuhai in China. All these four cities have given me very different experiences and allowed me to see different urban form and people’s uniqueness.

As an international student myself, I found that it was important to have someone to ask and talk to. That is why I wanted to join the programme, so I would be able to help those who were new like me.

The University of Auckland assists transitions from studying to working. Students at the University can learn certain skills such as writing CVs and learning tips for interviews.

I have a particular interest in setting up workshops around career development to teach international students these skills.

As a mentor, I prioritise students’ well-being not only in the academic aspect but also the social and mental health aspects.

The international student experience finds it necessary to host events such as city field trips for mentees to engage with one another.

I look forward to helping all new students in the programme!
