Creative Careers Programme 2022
A workshop series designed for Creative Arts and Industries students and recent graduates.

The Creative Careers Programme is a series of workshops designed specifically for current students and recent graduates from the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries, University of Auckland!
There are six tailored workshops designed to support creatives in all aspects of a creative career. Programme facilitator and Career Development Consultant Shannon Ring will cover topics such as how to take the first step into creative work, getting started with freelancing, promoting your work, and everything in between!
All sessions are available to attend online via Zoom. You can register for the whole programme or can select the workshops that interest you.
Workshop 1: Finding Creative Work
Overview of workshop:
"How do I look for work? Where do I even start? Who should I approach and how should I approach them? What do I need to do?"
These are common questions that people ask when they begin navigating the world of creative work. This workshop will help you take the first step in exploring with job search strategies.

Workshop 2: Freelance and Portfolio Careers for Creatives
Overview of workshop:
"How do I structure my creative career, so it works for me? Do I want to work for myself and freelance – and what does that look like? Where do I even start? Or do I prefer to have a few jobs rolling at the same time to finance my creative projects – does that even work? What could that look like?"
Come along to this workshop to get some real insight into some options for setting up your Creative Career that sits a bit outside of the box. Just the way we creatives like it!

Workshop 3: Connecting your Creative Work with the Industry
Overview of the workshop:
It's time to level up creatives! Being creative in your field is a fantastic start – getting known, seen or heard is your next step up!
This workshop will look at why this is important, but more importantly, how you can address this so that you are ahead of your game! It's 2022, and the following topics are fundamentally important when creating your own success:
- Networking: Building connections in your industry, some great practical tips to get you started
- Your online branding: The why, the what and the how

Workshop 4: Confidence for Creatives - Promoting your work and backing yourself
Overview of workshop:
"It's one thing to learn how to be the best creative that I can be……but then what if I am too scared to put myself out there?"
This workshop with Shannon Ring is a way to look at and work practically on how you can relook at your creative skillset and back it confidently - so that your work can inspire others, purchase it or be keen to work with you.
An excellent workshop for all creatives who have any doubt about their abilities and the amazing things they have to offer!

Workshop 5: Finding your Career Direction Creative Careers – Ask the Expert
Overview of workshop:
"What I'm studying isn’t necessarily what I would like to do...what now?"
Finding your career direction can be confusing. This workshop will guide you through a career decision-making model that is tactile, thought-provoking and helps you develop a chart of ideas that can lead you into further research into what is possible for your future direction.
This workshop with Shannon Ring will take place with a small group in the mid-semester break, so you have the creative space to sit back and take the time to think beyond the next assignment due. If the group decides, we can even set up a coaching session the following week to come together and discuss what research was done post the workshop.

Workshop 6: Creative Careers – Ask the Expert
Overview of workshop:
Often we have burning questions around the different parts of our career journey and are unsure about the best way to approach it. This session will be a safe space where no question is a silly question. We will help you answer your question or guide you in the right direction to find your answer.
This workshop with Shannon Ring provides an opportunity to bring any questions you have around creative careers, creative jobs, the different types of work out there (e.g. full-time, contract, freelance, portfolio, part-time, internship, etc.). You are also welcome to come along and listen to us responding to other people's questions so that you can learn too!
