Pou Whirinaki

Understanding the importance of whanaungatanga within te ao Māori, we developed a system where tauira tautoko tauira.

The Pou Whirinaki mentoring programme is designed to embody the values of whanaungatanga within te ao Māori, amplified by students who are supportive, dependable, and a strong foundation of knowledge to feed upon.

Pou Whirinaki (mentors) come from our student community, comprising of students who have completed 1-2 years of study. They are knowledgeable on previous papers in their programme which they achieved high results in, and have also acquired essential study skill techniques.

Pou Whirinaki are available for students studying the following programmes:

  • Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Huarahi Māori, Primary and Early Childhood Education specialisations
  • Bachelor of Social Work
  • Bachelor of Sport, Health, and Physical Education.

Pou Whirinaki support isn't limited to only content, they can also provide guidance, tips and tricks for studying and just be an ear when needed.

If you would like to engage with one of our Pou Whirinaki, please email our student support adviser Tayla, and she will assist you. Email Tayla.
