Lynette Demegilio: Postgraduate Diploma in Education graduate

“I have a passion for teaching young children and I wanted to enhance my understanding of best practice in literacy teaching. The University of Auckland’s excellent lecturers and researchers made the Postgraduate Diploma in Education the obvious choice for me.

“The programme has allowed me to build on my undergraduate study and years of experience as an early childhood teacher and head teacher.

“I was able to focus my research on literacy practices in early childhood. This has enhanced my understanding of how teaching practices can foster or hinder children’s literacy development, whether it be in language or mathematics.

“The University of Auckland’s flexible delivery options enabled me to finish my studies while working full-time. I enjoyed contributing to online discussions and my lecturers were very supportive and helpful.

“For me, the best thing about teaching is the impact that I can make on the lives of children. I feel privileged to be a part of children’s learning and development.

“I recommend the Postgraduate Diploma in Education to other ECE teachers. The programme is very relevant to current teaching practice and has made me more confident in my strategies teaching literacy to young children. It has also given me the opportunity to teach tertiary-level students who are gaining their qualifications in ECE."
