“I decided to become a teacher after spending over 20 years in the merchant navy. I love learning new things every day and teaching future generations. For me, the best thing about teaching is helping students in their transition from intermediate school to high school.

“I completed my teaching qualification at Epsom Campus in 1998 (back when the Faculty of Education and Social Work was known as the College of Education) and loved it. I came back to study the Postgraduate Certificate in Education to develop my skills. I had used some videos to teach in the classroom but wanted to learn more – the programme has expanded my views, particularly around computational thinking.

“I heard about the Woolf Fisher Trust Postgraduate Scholarship through Education Gazette and decided to apply. The scholarship provided funding for my postgraduate studies and allowed me to upskill. I enjoyed interacting with lecturers and students on a weekly basis!

“My advice for anyone considering applying for the Woolf Fisher Trust Postgraduate Scholarship is use your passion for supporting your students as motivation to upskill!”
