“I’d like to become a teacher, or work in the education field, so majoring in Education seemed like a good place to start. I’m interested in the whole topic of education. It’s so multifaceted, with many psychological, philosophical and political elements to it.

“In Education, you’re learning about learning, so it applies well to any other subject you study. My second major is English and I’m always picking up tips and ideas, such as how to concentrate more during a test, or how to absorb information from the lecture better – and I’ve even been able to pass on these tips to friends.

I’ve learnt a lot about myself, and developed skills that I know will help me in the future, not just in my studies, but in my career.

“I’ve enjoyed making friends with other like-minded people who are considering careers in Education. There’s always plenty of tutorial discussions and opportunity for student input. Some people assume studying Education is very rigid and overly formal, but there’s actually a lot of creativity to it.

“I love the University culture because it’s the place where people open up intellectually. You are free to discuss things that interest you, debate ideas and connect with people on an intellectual level. Because of this, I’ve become much more confident in talking to others and expressing myself.

“Once I finish my Bachelor of Arts, I may study a Graduate Diploma in Teaching, or perhaps work abroad with the help of my degree. I also want to see all the parts of New Zealand I haven’t yet visited, and maybe even find an education-related job in one of the regions.”
