Henry Yao - BA Education

Henry has been able to combine an Education major to help him develop his interest in youth development.

“I decided to study Education because I’m really interested in youth development and what impact schooling has on the wellbeing of young people, in particular, looking at how we can reduce health inequities amongst young people and positively impact wellbeing through schools.

“I really enjoy the variety of perspectives we draw from in the programme and the variety of
topics we look at. This has exposed me to a wide range of ideas and helped me discover which areas of Education I am most interested in.

“I relish the opportunities we get to reflect on our own background and Education through the courses. I’ve found this to be a really eye-opening way to explore the inequities which exist in society and lead to different experiences by young people.

“Currently, I’m interested in bringing together what I have learned about young people and the education system with what I have learned about health, wellbeing, and health promotion.

“In ten years’ time, I’d like to have a job researching youth wellbeing or delivering services for young people. Regardless of the type of role, I’d definitely want to be ina position where I’m making a positive impact on the wellbeing of young people.

“I would definitely recommend a BA in Education to anyone interested in young people! The breadth of the programme means there are so many different areas which can be studied. Education is such a flexible major and works with many areas of other study.”
