“My aspirations on becoming a Social worker are founded on my own experiences and what I have endured throughout my life journey. Growing up in a somewhat broken upbringing inspires me to help those in need, so that they and generations after them can experience a supportive, stable and healthy environment to grow and live in.

"Although I have several years of experience in voluntary work, I knew that studying the Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Auckland would better parepare me to make a real change in my community.

“What I have enjoyed most about the programme is building relationships with a diverse range of people who bring a wealth of experience and passion to this course. Meeting and working alongside students and lecturers with the same aspirations for change is very inspiring. As the skill of building relationships is the cornerstone of Social Work practice, it has been a beneficial asset to my academic journey.

I am inspired to help those in need, so that they and generations after them can experience a supportive, stable and healthy environment to grow and live in.

“The best thing about the Epsom campus is the close-knit community. Staff and students are so warm and welcoming which makes studying that much more easier and enjoyable. The culture at Epsom campus doesn’t make you feel so small, you experience a sense of family and belonging.

“After I graduate I’d like to work in a local organization that seeks to enhance the health and well-being of families. In ten years time, I would live to still be in a position of helping people, whether that be through my role as a seasoned social worker or part of an organization in the community. Giving back to my communities in South Auckland is my highest goal.

“I would recommend the Bachelor of Social Work to anyone who enjoys building relationships and helping people. Studying this Programme will equip you through practical and theory based learning, with the right skills and knowledge to make a difference”
