“I think some major experiences in my life contributed to why I chose to study social work. Nothing else appealed to me as much during my high school years and I believe the skills and knowledge I have gained from my particular experiences will be invaluable to the field.

“I chose to study at the University of Auckland because it’s close to home, it’s closest to where all my friends are, it’s a highly ranked university and I think Auckland has a good vibe. I have definitely enjoyed meeting new people throughout the programme and learning what the field of social work is all about.

“What I like most about the programme is how diverse it is. So far I have studied across a range of disciplines such as psychology, sociology and law.”

John Fabro is in his third year of study towards a Bachelor of Social Work.
