Ministry of Education literacy and numeracy course subsidies

The Tertiary Fees Funding Support Scheme supports teachers and leaders in primary and intermediate schools to undertake tertiary study in priority areas for teacher professional learning and development.

2021 subsidies have not been confirmed by the Ministry of Education and there may be changes for 2021.  More information is expected by the beginning of December 2020.

This scheme enables primary and intermediate teachers, leaders and principals in state and state-integrated schools to complete a tertiary course (paper) that:

  • Responds to student achievement and engagement challenges, particularly in years 5-8.
  • Addresses issues of equity related to outcomes for Māori and Pacific students and students with special education needs.
  • Builds subject content knowledge in tandem with effective pedagogies for all learners.
  • Strengthens Communities of Learning.

Individuals or schools can apply to the Ministry of Education for reimbursement of up to 50% of the tuition fees.
