Mary Jackson - Bachelor of Education (Teaching)

Being in the classroom and seeing when a child has a ‘lightbulb’ moment makes teaching so rewarding for Mary.

“I chose to study teaching because although I had the desire to teach, I lacked the skill set that 'good teachers' possess and I knew that my content knowledge needed serious growth.

“In my very first semester we did a two-week practicum that provided depth to what I had been learning in lectures. Although I'm still learning now, it is in practicum that much of the knowledge comes to life and I begin to understand and apply the knowledge to the classroom.

“My favourite experience is always the moment you see the lightbulb turn on for a student, when it all starts to make sense, when they can find the solution, when they can read the word, when they grasp the concept, when they make a connection. It’s my absolute, most favourite moment.

“My favourite thing about the programme is that I'm not just a face in the crowd. We know each other by name. The lecturers know your name and so you're able to have real conversations during lectures and workshops that help to develop a greater understanding.

“I would recommend this campus to anyone who is looking to study. I believe this campus provides a more personable tertiary experience which is ideal for learners like me who are looking for a more collaborative type learning experience where conversation and input are important.”
