Welcome from the director
E ngā rau rangatira mā o ngā rohe o te Tai Tokerau, ngā mihi nui ki a koe me tou whānau.
Kia ora. Welcome to the University of Auckland’s campus in Tai Tokerau.
The Tai Tokerau Campus has been in the heart of Whangārei for over 25 years and is dedicated to providing a range of programmes in education and teaching for those living in Northland. Each year our graduates march through the centre of Whangārei with great pride at the University’s only graduation ceremony to be held outside the Auckland region.
There are exciting developments underway for the Tai Tokerau Campus from 2019 that will see the Faculty of Education and Social Work continue to expand our programmes in the North. Our current study options include two foundation programmes to prepare you for tertiary study, as well as teacher education programmes in English-medium primary and Māori-medium teaching. We are also looking to once again providing a secondary teacher education programme for Northland in the years ahead.
Our students come from all over Northland and many start their study as adult students. Whatever your situation, we can support your aspirations and help you gain a university degree. We are also able to provide postgraduate study options for teachers, and anyone interested in education and related areas.
Our students and graduates also contribute immensely to the education and wellbeing of children in Tai Tokerau. You will see a few of them profiled here and on our website. Many have extended their work within the Northland community in areas such as youth development and advocacy and support, demonstrating the diverse range of knowledge and skills that teachers bring, share and cultivate in our community. Others have gone on to work in teaching positions overseas and other areas of the country.
Your qualification from the University of Auckland is your stepping stone to whatever you want to achieve. By choosing the University of Auckland you will gain a qualification from Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading, world-ranked university, right here in the North. You can be confident that your kete will be filled with all the knowledge and expertise you need to support our tamariki to succeed in all that they do.
