Supporting your teaching

We support teaching in a number of different ways:

• Teaching in various FMHS programmes
  
• Supervising research students
  
• Conducting scholarship of teaching and learning research (within the Unit and with other FMHS stakeholders)
  
• Managing the Chalk and Wire eportfolio platform for FMHS programmes
  
• Providing consultation for customised/tailored learning solutions, including those mediated by technology
• Troubleshooting for staff who want to make use of technologies in their teaching
  
• Collaborating on teaching and learning and research grants

**We are currently not accepting new expressions of interest**

The Learning and Teaching Unit accepts project expressions of interest (EOIs) for educational development projects.

Projects can support innovative teaching in a range of contexts and modalities, including face-to-face, blended and online teaching. Only projects related to undergraduate and postgraduate courses are eligible.

Minimum timeframe

The usual minimum timeframe for most projects is eight months from EOI submission to project launch.

Project examples include (but are not limited to):

• Course design or redesign
• Curriculum and programme consultation
• Conversion of courses for flexible, blended or online delivery
  
• Transforming in-class or clinical teaching 
  
• Creating media rich resources to supplement face-to-face-teaching.
  

The submission process consists of filling in an Expression of Interest (EOI) form and submitting it to the Learning and Teaching Unit. This form provides LTU staff with details of the project that you wish to start. Only submissions using the form will be reviewed.

What happens to my expression of interest?

All EOI submissions are reviewed by LTU staff, in conjunction with the Associate Dean (Academic), Associate Professor Bridget Kool. You will be contacted by the LTU once your EOI ha been reviewed. This will happen approximately one week after submission. If your submission is successful, we will contact you to arrange an initial project meeting.

We anticipate accepting approximately around half of the proposals received due to staffing limitations within the unit.

Sometimes your teaching needs require a customised solution. For example, you might want to find a way to deliver case based learning to students. Alternatively you might be looking for a way to deliver clinical skills videos online. Whatever your particular needs we are here to help. In most cases we have the requisite expertise in-house to deliver the solution that you need. If not, we can work with you to find a third party capable of meeting your needs.

We provide individualised support for academic staff with the development of their teaching practice. Our support is oriented to assisting FMHS academics to develop their teaching and assessment skills and knowledge. We are happy to provide one-on-one advice or work with small groups of staff, but our focus is on building capacity across the faculty.

Scholarship of teaching and learning involves the systematic investigation of teaching and learning practices in order to improve teaching/enhance the student learning experience.
