Professor Richard Douglas' research explores the relationship between the micro-organisms in the sinuses and the inflammatory response that they induce. However, the microbial complexity of the sinonasal mucosa is enormous, and his attempts to influence the flora of the nose with antibiotics may have unexpected consequences.
