Kristina Zawaly

Kristina's PhD in General Practice has given her the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and research centres while undertaking substantial pieces of research.

“I am completing a PhD in General Practice with a focus on geriatrics and neurodegenerative diseases. My research applies epidemiological and interventional study designs to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mild cognitive impairment and dementia in older Māori and non-Māori adults.

“I have been provided with invaluable opportunities to collaborate across the breadth of General Practice and Primary Health Care, drawing upon multidisciplinary expertise from Psychology, the Centre for Brain Research and other areas. This has supported optimal opportunities to undertake substantial pieces of research regarding exploring cognitive impairment among older Māori and non-Māori.

I have been provided with invaluable opportunities to collaborate across the breadth of General Practice and Primary Health Care, drawing upon  multidisciplinary expertise from Psychology, the Centre for Brain Research and other areas.

“My goal is to continue to increase the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases through generating the design, development and clinical applications of novel interventions. Thereby, promoting successful ageing, a better quality of life and reduction of financial and service demands on both family/whānau and the healthcare system.”
