Scott Parekowhai

Scott's passion to support people was his motivation to pursue a Bachelor of Health Sciences and Bachelor of Nursing conjoint degree.

“After I graduated with a Certificate in Health Sciences, I decided to study a Bachelor of Health Sciences/Bachelor of Nursing conjoint to extend my skills and pursue my passion.

“A passion to support people is what drives me and I aspire to have a leading role in enhancing the health and well-being of the New Zealand population. My passion, my own health challenges, and a need for more Māori health professionals started me on this journey.

...in my future career, I will be able to use the nursing clinical knowledge to support the health of my patients – and I’ll combine this with my health science knowledge to address the social determinants of health which drive inequalities.

“By studying a conjoint, I get the best of both worlds and so in my future career, I will be able to use the nursing clinical knowledge to support the health of my patients – and I’ll combine this with my health science knowledge to address the social determinants of health which drive inequalities. I also want to bring the elements of Te Ao Māori  into my practice through following tikanga Māori and utilising Te Reo  Māori to improve the health outcomes of my people.

“Studying at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences has been a rewarding experience so far. I love the balance of student life and study and I feel proud to be a student here.”
