The Hikitia Te Ora - Certificate of Health Sciences helped Stacy settle into Uni life and journey towards her aspirations.
“I have a passion for Māori Health, and aspire to become a health care professional. Health Sciences is a stepping stone in my journey towards achieving my aspirations.
“There are too many things that I enjoy about my programme. I was always interested in the state of Māori health in high school. The content of my programme only feeds this burning flame inside of me. The things I’m learning make me more determined to achieve my goal of becoming a Māori health professional, and contributing to the decrease in health inequity for Māori and Pacific people. That is one reason why I love what I am learning. The other aspect that I enjoy about my programme are the lifelong friends and family that I have gained from it. Last but not least, I really like how my programme aims to protect and strengthen my cultural identity.

“As a young Māori girl, coming from a strong Māori background, home environment and high school, I was initially afraid of big old Auckland. But, aside from the expected trials and challenges of being a university student, I have come to really enjoy the things that Auckland city and the University of Auckland have to offer. I have met some amazing people and teachers this year. I am constantly surrounded by the support of MAPAS and the ‘family away from home’ that they have blessed me with and I absolutely love the content that I am learning. I have also had plenty of opportunities to find ‘balance’ this year, by participating in extracurricular and recreational activities, with my friends. I love uni life!”
