Other ways to build your brand and engage with students

Aside from Careers Expos, Recruitment Events and direct recruiting, there are many other ways to build your brand and engage with students.

Pop Up/Custom Events

The Employer Engagement team can work with you to facilitate custom events on campus. Examples of custom events include the award winning Fletcher Building 2014 B Curious campaign and Fletcher Building’s more recent 2015 FB You campaign below.

If you would like to organise a custom event, you can either register the details here or call Kate Jones, Employer Event Coordinator on kate.jones@auckland.ac.nz or 099235941 to discuss your ideas.

Speakers at Career Events

As well as our large Career Expos, we also run a number of career events throughout the year. These events are designed to support student career development and educate them about the world of work.

We often look for speakers in various stages of their careers to speak on a specific topic and share their experiences and insights. Themes of interest for 2016 events include:

  • How to find opportunities through recruitment agencies.
  • Diversity – exploring themes of diversity and how your different experiences, perspectives and world views can be of benefit your future career.
  • Self-employment, entrepreneurs and intrepreneurs.
  • Where are they now? – previous University of Auckland graduates speaking about their career journey to date and the decisions they have made along the way.

If you are interested in being a speaker at any of the above events or have an idea for an alternative theme, please contact Kate Jones, Employer Event Coordinator on kate.jones@auckland.ac.nz or 099235941 to find out more.

"Spotlight On" Industry Events

Building on the success of the 2015 IPENZ Transport Careers Event, where students learnt about the many career paths in the transport industry, we are keen to facilitate future events that give students the chance to learn about other industries. If you represent a particular industry or belong to an industry organisation and would like to work with us to promote this industry to our students, please get in touch with Kate Jones, Employer Event Coordinator on kate.jones@auckland.ac.nz or 099235941 to find out how we can help.

Industry Partnerships and Career Education

We have a number of industry partnerships that offer mutual benefit to our students and the participating organisations. Each partnership is different, but each offers something unique that supports our students to boost their employability and skills and really fast-track their future careers. If your organisation is interested in working with us on a joint initiative and support the career education of our students, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with Faith Pallant, Employer Engagement Manager on f.pallant@auckland.ac.nz to start a conversation.

Industry Partnership Showcase – Google Digital Media & Adwords Programme

The Google team works with clients, small and large, to maximise their digital presence. The team kept hearing their clients say how hard it was to find skilled and experienced digital media professionals, so, known for their creative ideas and innovative solutions, the Google team hatched a plan. They wanted to build awareness about career opportunities in digital media so that more people know about this exciting evolving word, and also train people in the skills the industry needs.

In 2013 they teamed up with us and did just that! Offering University of Auckland students industry-coveted skills, free Google AdWords accreditation, and real industry experience. The programme has evolved and grown year-on-year and has led to over 100 job opportunities being secured by our students. The now 6 session programme combines the expertise of both Google and CDES and embeds career education throughout the digital media programme. Find out more about the 2015 programme.
