There’s more to a career in Tax Policy than meets the eye

Applications are invited from graduates who are interested in a career with the Policy Branch of Inland Revenue Department.  We are offering a number of permanent positions commencing at this beginning of 2016.

We are seeking graduates with law, accounting or economic degrees. A second degree whether or not in one of these subjects would also be highly desirable, and having studied tax papers at 300 level.

Inland Revenue Tax Policy Branch develops tax policy initiatives (and social policy in the areas of student loans, child support and Kiwisaver) in association with NZ Treasury. To do this we develop policy, recommend courses of action to the government and see our projects through the law-making process. All this requires research, rigorous analysis, extensive consultation, clear oral and written communication and committed team-work.

Our staff range from senior professionals to new graduates. They may have several years’ experience in private practice, come from related fields or have practical experience in the operation of the tax system. Alternatively they may be recent graduates who want to gain valuable experience that will be of use to them throughout their careers.

As a member of our team, you will find we have a lot to offer:

  • A stimulating, challenging work environment where you never lose sight of the ‘big picture’
  • The satisfaction of work that makes a real difference
  • Being part of a busy team of dedicated professionals who are excited by their work
  • Significant investment in a structural tax training programme and your professional development in a wide range of skills and topics
  • Our financial support and encouragement through your accounting and law professionals.

In return we offer:

  • Encouragement to take on stretch assignments
  • A work environment that allows us to work and socialise as a team
  • A good starting salary and strong financial advancement

We are pleased to invite interested candidates to come and meet us on campus. There will be two events with catering and networking on the evening of Thursday 4 June.
