AUSA and CDES Present: Careers in the Public Sector Event as iCalendar

AUSA and CDES are excited to present the second annual ‘Careers in the Public Sector’ event as part of Politics Week!  

With three panel events running in conjunction with a ‘mini’ career expo, this event is bigger than ever! Students from all faculties, at any stage of their degree, are welcome. See below to find out more about the three panel events, and book your place at any or all of them!

Spaces are strictly limited so booking your place through MyCDES is essential:

5–5.30pm: Community Panel Session 
Come and hear from a diverse range of panellists across a variety of organisations discuss community-related careers in the public sector. Our panellists will bust some myths and chat about a variety of topics to help guide you on your way to a potential career in this space.

5.40–6.10pm: Policy and Economics Panel Session
Get the answers to all your questions about life in policy within a public sector organisation. Learn about panellists' study and working backgrounds, including how they secured their current role and the skills involved. Learn about the different roles in the sector and what a normal day looks like at each company. Find out about graduate/internship/voluntary positions and the application process.

6.20–6.50pm: Science and Environment Panel Session
Waste solutions isn’t garbage - it incorporates so many interesting elements relating to the environment. Briar Wyatt is here to chat to you about grad life within Auckland Council’s Waste Solutions team. Or maybe you want to be an Environmental Health Officer – did you know there’s a role for this in New Zealand Defence Force? Who knew! This session will enlighten you about different science/environment career pathways in the public sector.

  • Auckland Council (Briar Wyatt, Waste Solutions Graduate)

‘Mini’ Career Expo:

In conjunction with the three panel events, a number of organisations will be present in the library foyer area throughout the evening to network and discuss their potential roles and opportunities. Plus, they can help provide career advice and raise the profile of careers in the public sector with you. There’s no need to book your place for this part of the event, simply come along between 5 - 7pm to mix and mingle!
