CECIL app for Windows 8.1 users

If you are a Windows 8.1 user, then you should download the free CECIL app from the Windows Store and enjoy offline access to your course materials from anywhere.

Why should I use the CECIL app?

The CECIL App provides students online or offline access to all course material, announcements, resources, activities, deadlines and marks. The CECIL app gives students many benefits:

  • A lighter version of CECIL.
  • A more intuitive and easy to use interface.
  • Faster access than the CECIL Mobile browser interface.
  • Offline access to course materials from anywhere, even areas without internet access.

The CECIL app also organises information clearly, and provides a calendar to show due dates for assessments.

Who designed the app?

The CECIL app has been developed by students for students. Elliot Colquhoun and Jano Moonamale are 4th year Software Engineering students and ITS intern developers. The app was developed during their 3rd and 4th year of study, with the help of the CECIL team.

“We’ll also develop a CECIL app for Android and iOS,” says Jano.

What is CECIL?

  • CECIL is the University’s Learning Management System (LMS).
  • CECIL is used by staff, to distribute information, materials and to deliver assessments for courses.
  • CECIL is also used by students, to access information for their study (course announcements, information about assignments and tests, resources, marks and to participate in online based course activity).

Why was the CECIL app developed?

  • CECIL has been a web-based service for the last 20 years, which means that students cannot access their resources unless they have an internet connection, or they download course materials to alternative storage.
  • CECIL is designed for both staff and students, but they have different requirements. Students require a ‘lighter’ version of CECIL to provide easier access to key data they need frequently.
