Casement Gordon Aickin, FRCA, was a scholar of Auckland Grammar School and graduated from Otago University in 1905. He was an honoured surgeon in Auckland from 1913 to 1936. The Award was founded by subscription from the public and members of the medical profession.

The main purpose of the Award is to support a medical student enrolled in the first year of study on the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree programme (MBChB Part II).
