The Prize was established in 1949 by the family and friends of the late Lt.Col John Mulgan, for the encouragement of the study of Greek. Greek was chosen partly because Lt. Col Mulgan was particularly interested in it during his university career and partly because Greece was the scene of his brilliant and gallant war service.
