Dance Postgraduate Research Fund

Can we heal through creativity? Your gift to the Dance Postgraduate Research Fund will assist doctoral students to investigate how we can gain deeper understanding and evidence of the ways in which dance can transform lives.

I want to give

Throughout history creativity has been a refuge and a source of wellbeing. Today there is growing evidence to show that participating in the arts has benefits for mental, emotional and physical health. In the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries, postgraduate students are investigating educational and healing qualities of dance.

One such student is Kate Riegle van West. Kate’s research explores the effects of International Poi and Tai Chi on physical function in healthy older adults working in partnership with the University’s Centre for Brain Research. Kate’s work is ground-breaking in this area , the possibility of using poi as a rehabilitation tool for stroke patients has huge scope for supporting Māori men and women.

Donations to this appeal will help support students like Kate to undertake and continue their valuable research into the benefits of the creative arts in health and wellbeing.
